Foam underlayment helps fill in minor subfloor surface imperfections and unevenness to help stabilize the floor surface, which is especially important for tiles or planks that click together. Before putting down underlayment, it’s also critical to make sure the subfloor is properly swept and cleaned including removal of paint residuals or glue from earlier installations.
